At some point, we are all liars and hypocrites and we choose to filter different sides of ourselves. Ask yourself does anybody really know who you really are? I’m not just talking about who you are at face value or normal intimacy but do the close ones to you know your very private secrets? We might disclose most of our life to people who are close to us but there is always that 1% of information that we withhold. That is just human nature.

Radical honesty is a self-improvement program and technique developed by Dr Brad Blanton. This program mentions that lying is the primary source of human stress. Sometimes we do not face the true reality of situations and live in denial or act cynical in different situations to suit our agenda.
We all have a life which includes work, relationships and family but however not all these lives are lived in an honest way. A prime example of this is that most of the men who are in relationship act very different when they are with their partner in front of their friends but however it’s a different story behind closed doors. They will most likely act cheesier and more romantic behind closed doors rather than in front of their friends because they must maintain the image they have built over the last years that they are a “cool guy” or something else.
Dr Brad Blanton emphasises that we should be more honest with ourselves and face the true reality of situations. We should also speak more bluntly and directly, even about painful or taboo subjects. This will make people happier by creating an intimacy not possible by hiding things so therefore people are more in touch with their true self or spirit instead of the “image” which isn’t really who they are.
There are three phases to telling this truth whether to yourself or people close to you:
- Revealing facts/truth
- Honesty about true feelings or thoughts
- Revealing the fiction
I have started to implement this technique in my life and I can say that I feel more free than ever feel like my true self again. I advise anyone who constantly feels stressed about disclosing their true feelings to try this technique and highly recommend this program as it could transform your life.
